  Michael says,
'There are hundreds of writers whose work would be well received, who never get a chance to put their work before the public. I have therefore forged worldwide links with successful midsize and smaller, more exclusive publishing houses, who are willing to publish something because it is well written, not just a 'pot boiler' by a well known name.'

About us

After a career in the Diplomatic Service, Michael Montagu became a successful author, mainly writing about antiques, the arts and biographies.  He is a regular contributor to the acclaimed publication Vintage Script and has written for a number of UK and international magazines.

Michael says, 'There are hundreds of writers whose work would be well received, who never get a chance to put their work before the public. I have therefore forged worldwide links with successful midsize and smaller, more exclusive publishing houses, who are willing to publish something because it is well written, not just a 'pot boiler' by a well known name. Like most authors, I've found it demoralising to receive rejection after rejection from the bigger publishing houses that only seem to be interested in submissions from established and, therefore, immediately profitable authors.'

Like all ethical literary agents, Michael Montagu Literary Agency charges no fees to authors. We are paid by the lower, usual commission of 15% of incoming royalties. We welcome email submissions from prospective clients who are writing both fiction and non-fiction. After reading them we can arrange a preliminary telephone call to discuss the best available options to get your work published and approach the most appropriate publishers worldwide. Naturally we have to be selective and cannot undertake to work with every author who makes a submission to us. A submission should comprise your reasoning why the public would want to read your book, a brief synopsis and the first three chapters. Once we accept your proposal we will talk to publishers on your behalf. If an agreement is signed, the publisher will normally undertake filing of copyright documents, provide the ISBN and secure LOC CIP if necessary. They will market the finished book through the channels that best suit it.
